Frequently Asked Questions about MRI
What is an MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging)?
It is an imaging study that uses magnets and radio waves to obtain detailed images of the inside of the body, without radiation. It is safe, non-invasive, and highly accurate for diagnosing various conditions.
How long does an MRI take?
The duration depends on the area of the body being studied, but on average it lasts between 20 and 45 minutes. At TAM Imaging, we use fast scan sequences that reduce exam time.
Are the images and results delivered the same day?
- Images: delivered immediately after the scan.
- Medical report: provided within 24 hours. In urgent cases, we can issue an express report within 6 hours (during business hours).
Is an MRI painful?
No. The procedure is completely painless. You only need to lie still inside the scanner.
What if I am claustrophobic or anxious?
Our MRI scanner has a 70 cm wide-bore tunnel, larger than traditional systems, which provides more comfort and reduces the feeling of confinement. In addition, our staff will guide and accompany you throughout the process.
Do I need special preparation before the exam?
In most cases, no special preparation is needed. Some studies may require fasting or contrast; in such cases, our team will provide specific instructions when booking your appointment.
Can I have an MRI if I have braces, implants, or prostheses?
It depends on the type of material. Many modern implants and prostheses are MRI compatible, but it is essential to inform the doctor and the technical staff before the scan.
Is it safe if I am pregnant?
MRI is safe in most cases during pregnancy since it does not use radiation. However, it must always be prescribed and approved by your physician.
